Takahashi won the women's marathon in the Sydney Games, becoming the first Japanese to win a gold medal in an Olympic athletics event since 1936. China launched its first manned spaceship Shenzhou V (Divine Vessel V) at 9:00 am Wednesday, Oct.15th,2003, becoming the 3rd country in the world to send a person into orbit after the former Soviet Union and the United States.
